ENGINE LUBRICATION MONITORING
How Does an Oil Pressure Gauge Protect an Engine?
A properly selected oil pressure gauge provides a direct view of the engine lubrication system. It helps operators identify low oil pressure, abnormal pressure fluctuations, sensor faults, blocked oil passages, incorrect oil viscosity, and possible oil pump wear before these conditions develop into serious mechanical damage.
Oil pressure is not fixed at one value. It changes with engine speed, oil temperature, oil viscosity, bearing clearance, pump condition, and filter resistance. Reading the gauge correctly requires comparing cold start pressure, warm idle pressure, and pressure under increased engine speed.
Key Monitoring Conditions
Cold Start Higher pressure is common
Warm Idle Pressure normally decreases
Higher RPM Pressure should rise steadily
Sudden Zero Reading Stop and inspect immediately
